1. Payment for Services
Payment must be made in full before the first session begins. Bookings are only confirmed once cleared payment has been received.
2. Payment Methods
All payments are processed securely through Stripe. We do not accept cash. We do not store or retain your payment card details; these are handled by Stripe under its own terms and policies.
3. Session Duration
Sessions are available in half-hour or one-hour slots. Session time runs from the agreed start time and includes any agreed breaks. If you arrive late, the session will still end at the scheduled time. If the tutor is delayed, the session will continue so that you receive the full agreed duration. Where this is not possible, we will reschedule the missed time at no extra charge.
4. Attendance and Lateness
Clients must attend sessions at the agreed start time. A grace period of 15 minutes applies. If you arrive later than this, we reserve the right to treat the session as forfeited, with no additional time or refund given.
5. Additional Review Services
Requests for services outside of scheduled sessions (e.g. essay marking or written feedback) will be charged at our published hourly rate. The applicable rate will be confirmed before any work begins, and payment must be made before feedback or materials are provided.
6. Rescheduling and Cancellations
To reschedule, you must give at least three clear days’ notice. If less than three clear days’ notice is given, the full fee will be charged. We may, at our discretion, agree to reschedule with less notice without additional charge.
Where sessions are booked online or at a distance, you have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of booking under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. If you ask us to begin delivering sessions within that 14-day period, you acknowledge that you lose the right to cancel once the services have been fully performed.
7. Refunds
No refunds are available once a session has been delivered.
For package bookings (Gold, Marathon, or Bespoke), any refund will be calculated by deducting the value of completed sessions at the standard ad hoc rate, together with a reasonable charge for preparation and materials already provided.
8. Health and Accessibility
We will make reasonable adjustments for clients with disabilities or relevant health conditions, provided we are notified in advance. This does not affect your statutory rights.
9. Code of Conduct
Respectful behaviour is expected at all times. Abusive, discriminatory, or aggressive behaviour towards tutors or staff may result in immediate termination of services without refund.
10. Privacy and Data Protection
We process personal data in accordance with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. A full Privacy Notice is available on request and must be read alongside these terms. We will not record telephone or online conversations without your prior knowledge and consent.
11. Intellectual Property
All lesson plans, worksheets, teaching methods, and any recordings of lessons remain the intellectual property of A Star Tuition. You may use them for personal study only. Copying, sharing, or distribution without consent is prohibited. Any breach of these terms which demonstrates a lack of honesty or integrity may adversely affect your application for admission as a solicitor. We reserve the right to report serious breaches to the Solicitors Regulation Authority where relevant.
12. Exam Results Disclaimer
Tutors provide professional guidance but no guarantee of examination results can be given. Performance depends on each student’s own effort, circumstances, and external factors. Materials provided are supplementary and should not be relied upon as the sole source of study.
13. Limitation of Liability
Our liability to you in connection with the services is limited to the total fees you have paid, except for liability which cannot be limited by law (including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or breach of statutory rights).
14. Force Majeure
We shall not be responsible for any failure to provide services due to events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to illness, technical outages, strikes, or extreme weather. In such cases, we will use reasonable endeavours to reschedule sessions.
15. Dispute Resolution and Jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. We encourage mediation in the event of a dispute, but nothing in these terms affects your right to bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales.
16. Changes to Terms
We may amend these terms at any time by publishing the updated version on our website. The revised terms will apply to all new bookings made after the date of publication. Existing bookings will continue to be governed by the terms in force at the time of booking, unless you agree otherwise.
17. Entire Agreement and Severability
These terms, together with our Privacy Notice, form the entire agreement between us. If any part of these terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
